the laughing seagull

From my studio in Oxfordshire
I create artwork inspired by the sea using materials gathered
from the beautiful shorelines of the English coast
The shapes and colours of the sea glass that
I use are entirely natural and the result of years of tumbling in the salt water and pebbles which creates the gorgeous smooth and frosted finish.
Each picture is hand drawn and combines individually selected pieces of sea glass, driftwood and pebbles that perfectly compliment each design
The result is a completely unique and quirky piece of art, designed to make you smile

The laughing Seagull was born out of a love of the sea and a desire to keep the salty air close despite now living as far inland as is possible. I started collecting driftwood about 5 years ago on a very windy day at Chesil Beach, Dorset whilst trying to take my mind off the fact that my daughter Ella was windsurfing in such blustery conditions! My collection of beach pebbles and sea glass continues to grow and is the culmination of many hours of beachcombing. There is a plethora of objects to be found along our gorgeous coastlines and with some encouragment my family has come to enjoy scavenging for flotsam and jetsam as much as I do!
Using only materials that we have collected from the coastlines of Dorset, Cornwall and The Isle of Wight along with simple pen drawings, I create unique and bespoke pictures and sculptures, each of which is imbued with a real sense of the sea.
